MAILMAN, Carroll Roy
— Passed away February 17, 2010, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre after a noble struggle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Auralie Marie (Comeau) and George "Pidge" Mailman, and brothers, Gary and Ken (all of Bridgewater). Carroll was raised and educated in the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia. He came to work at Nova Scotia Light and Power in Halifax as an electrical designer- draftsman. He joined Morris & Richard Consulting Engineers and launched a 35 year career as a building systems designer and partner in the firm, achieving the recognition and respect of the entire design and construction industry for his excellence, abilities, professionalism and integrity. An avid curler, Carroll was a loyal member of the Halifax Curling Club for many years serving on the executive including several times as President. He volunteered for the Briar and taught curling to many enthusiasts. Passionate in many things and expert at some, Carroll was an accomplished photographer, gourmet cook and artist. In summer, Carroll was an equally devoted golfer and long-time member of Ashburn, renowned for his great drives and even greater stories in the clubhouse. His long tenure as host and chief roaster for the annual IES Golf Tourney has come to an end but he will be remembered by all for the atmosphere of friendship, humour, and good times he created by combining work with an infectious ability to live life to the fullest. Carroll leaves behind some very close friends and a family of co-workers who will miss him terribly but will remember him well as the force and character he was. He never asked anything for himself, but he gave of himself to everyone - and Carroll never let them down. Donations in Carroll's memory may be made to the IWK Health Center Foundation where much of his professional labour was offered with all of the enthusiasm of his great heart. He was 60 years young. A celebration of Carroll's life will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 25, in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Reception to follow at Ashburn Golf Club. 04.24.09 In celebration of Andy
Andy celebrated his 65th birthday on April 12th and is going to a four day work week starting in May, so we decided to celebrate him and his career by taking him on a surprise walkabout tour of his waterfront projects and then a dinner/roast at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Dinner was by Scanway Catering who did a fantastic job, and the stories about Andy were all very entertaining.
All in all it was a wonderful day and everyone had a great time.
